YOUR FIRST GAME NIGHT

From the couch to center stage.

One person sets up the room. Everyone else joins from their phones. A little preparation keeps the first round focused on the game.

1. Choose a host and a format

Category Clash and Survey Showdown use an independent host to read questions, judge spoken responses, and run the show. Undercover Guest lets the organizer also join the secret-word game through a player view.

Pick a built-in question pack or prepare a private pack before your guests arrive. For the hosted team games, make sure each team has a phone ready and understands who will submit captain decisions.

2. Put the public view on the shared screen

Keep host controls on the computer. Open the separate TV display for the public board, scores, and reveals. A computer connected by HDMI is a straightforward setup. Casting or mirroring depends on your device and TV; test it first.

A compatible TV browser can open the display link, but TV-browser support varies. Have the computer-and-HDMI option ready if the browser does not behave as expected. Casting from inside the app is not currently a dedicated feature.

3. Invite guests with the room code

Guests scan the room’s QR code or enter its short code. They provide a display name rather than making a guest account. Check the lobby, teams, captains, and readiness before starting.

Keep the phone browser open and connected. Refreshing in the same browser retains the player identity. A room code joins the game; it does not grant host access.

4. Run a quick practice moment

Explain when the host opens buzzing and that ordinary responses are given aloud. For trivia, point out that final wagers and written responses are private. Take a moment to agree how the host will handle equivalent responses.

If people are in different places, use your own voice or video call for the spoken parts. The game room does not include a built-in voice call.

Questions before game night?

Can we play without a smart TV?

Yes. Use a computer display or a computer connected to a TV by HDMI. Players still join from their phones.

What happens if a player refreshes?

The same browser cookie restores their place. A different browser does not automatically recover that player identity.
